Weather Report

David de Rothschild has embraced the green cause with his environmental business, Adventure Ecology, and an arts programme focused on the Gallery which opened earlier this year. The current exhibition is Weather Report featuring new work inspired by our changing weather patterns by two London-based artists Kate Williams and Dawn Shorten. Williams works with lamp-blown glass for eerily fragile pieces combining natural and artificial light, LEDs, fibre optic and neon (illustrated). The show features three ceiling installations between 400mm - 700mm in diameter, £1,750 - £5,000. Dawn Shorten paints cloud formations using gouache on heavy drafting paper to build up billowing, mysterious forms against a grey sky. They are relatively small in scale, (32cm x 32cm max), £700 - £900.

The show runs to 24 May 2007. Opening Hours Tuesday - Friday 10am - 6pm. Saturday 11am - 5pm. The Gallery @Adventure Ecology HQ, 125 Charing Cross Road, WC2 (020 7758 4717)

Otto Jakob at Colnaghi

It's glamorous, rare, collectable and found at the Colnaghi fine art gallery this month. No, it's not an Old Master but highly-individual jewellery by leading German artist Otto Jakob. His work has been compared to cult Paris designer JAR, and follows in the tradition of Fabergé and Verdura. And why Colnaghi? Because eminent dealer Katrin Bellinger is simultaneously showing a fine collection of Old Master drawings dedicated to silver and jewellery design. Otto Jakob, whose work is eagerly sought by collectors in Europe and the USA, is inspired by ancient and tribal art, using enamel and precious stones as an artist uses paint. He is showing for the first time in London, bringing 50 pieces from a new collection to this elite Bond Street gallery. They will be on display until 5th May and then available to view on request until the end of the month. Colnaghi, 15 Old Bond Street, W1 (020 7491 7408) Open Monday - Friday 10am -6pm.

Tate Modern

Banking giant UBS continues its high-profile association with Tate Modern with two important events this month.

An exhibition of contemporary drawings opens 4 May with work by leading 20th century American artists like Robert Rauschenberg, Chuck Close and Alighiero Boetti as well as British talent like Lucien Fred and David Hockney. UBS Openings: Drawings 4 May - 4 November (free admission)

The Long Weekend is a major arts festival over the Bank Holiday weekend with dramatic live events, some lasting through the night, centred on Tate Modern's huge Turbine Hall, plus a whole programme of activities, games and workshops aimed at the whole family. Last year's event attracted 100,000 over just four days and 2007 is expected to top that. Highlights include experimental films by Andy Warhol and Derek Jarman; music from Michael Nyman, Joshua Rifkin, Japanese No Wave exponent Ikue Mori, and electronic innovators, Throbbing Gristle; Mathieu Briand's huge sound installation Spiral; and Brazilian artist Marepe's giant carousel installation with found objects and toffee apples.

UBS Openings: The Long Weekend Friday 25 - Monday 28 May 2007. For tickets, call 020 7887 8753 or book online at www.tate.org.uk/modern

Art Tours at the Great Eastern

Perhaps because it's on the cusp of the City and arty Shoreditch, but the Great Eastern Hotel manages to be both whacky and the height of chic. A new wheeze is Hidden Secrets of the Art World, exclusive tours of the East End art scene along with brunch at the Terminus restaurant and/or an overnight stay. Young guides from the Royal College of Art or the Royal Academy will give you access to studios, warehouses and galleries as well as a chance to meet the artists. Think of it as an art safari and you want to bag the Big Five. Tours are held the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, (so 12 and 26 May) with a maximum of six people per group. Prices from £80 pp. Bookings on 020 7618 5061 or www.london.greateastern.hyatt.com
